Your Distinctive St. Patrick’s Day Traditions

My perception of St. Patrick’s Day has mainly included wearing something green to defend myself. Having been enrolled in school for a majority of my life, the idea of this day has mainly involved grabbing a green shirt instead of a blue one, or just tacking on a four-leaf pin so nobody had the right to pinch me. Either way, the day mainly seemed to revolve around defense.

Once I experienced a few St. Patrick’s Days after turning twenty-one, I realized why it appealed to so many of those who weren’t personally involved in the Irish culture. The food, the music, the green beer; it all adds up to an amazing time with friends, family, and often people you have never met before.

These experiences, although priceless, don’t seem to add up to an even somewhat traditional Irish experience of St. Patrick’s Day. Don’t think this is a bad thing. The natives of Ireland must enjoy an extravagant day there, but that does not take anything away from the experience we have here in the United States.
