The Facebook Cop-out: “Ad Philosophy”

The group known as “Just Say Now” has been banned from promoting their pro-marijuana advertisement on Facebook, even though the ad was initially approved and shown 38 million times on the social networking site.

 

Just Say Now is a coalition dedicated to the legalization of marijuana, claiming the change would lower crime near the borders and create around $40 billion in revenue each year. No matter how you feel regarding the subject of marijuana legalization, we can all agree that Just Say Now is making a political statement and should be guarded by free speech.

Sue or Settle? Compensation Guidelines for BP Oil Spill Victims

On Monday, Washington lawyer Kenneth Feinberg will take over the task of distributing $20 billion of BP compensation money to the victims of the BP Oil Spill. Unfortunately, the guidelines determining which businesses will receive those payments are getting more and more specific.

According to the guidelines presented by Mr. Feinberg, who was specifically appointed this task by President Obama, businesses will receive their compensation depending on their geographic distance from the spill and their dependence on the natural resources of the Gulf, according to a Huffington Post article.

Although Gulf Coast beaches have been declared “clean and safe” by President Obama, the seafood is still being rigorously tested and the BP well is still awaiting completion of its relief well.

Google, Verizon, and Web Pay Tiers

Google and Verizon have been receiving harsh criticisms over the last week regarding their potential plans to end network neutrality and force companies to pay a fee in order to maintain the speed of their web sites.

 

The internet has always been a level playing field, inspiring the term “Network Neutrality.”  What that means is, whether you are looking at YouTube or a random website your cousin designed, the content is equal and moves at an equal pace online. (This has nothing to do with the speed of your personal internet connection)
