Oil continues to rush into the Gulf of Mexico and efforts to curb the flow have failed repeatedly. The massive oil slick grows by approximately 5,000 barrels each day and seems to have already harmed local wildlife.

The Gulf of Mexico: Receiving 5,000 Barrels of Oil Daily

The Coast Guard announced on Wednesday that the oil spilling into the Gulf of Mexico and quickly approaching the Louisiana coastland is leaking at a rate of 5,000 barrels per day, 5 times faster than originally estimated.

Burning Oil in the Gulf of Mexico

The oil spill spreading in the Gulf of Mexico has reached a point approximately 20 miles off the coast of Louisiana; attempts to stop the leak at its source have so far failed. In response, a large portion of the surface oil will be contained and burned to avoid more harm to animals and the surrounding environment.
